BergHOFF Belgium becomes one of the first companies in the Benelux to ship orders in reusable packaging, marking a concrete step from pilots to fully operational reuse systems.
Reusable e-commerce packaging takes a major step forward in the Benelux
RE-ZIP is proud to mark an important milestone in the transition from single-use to reusable e-commerce packaging: BergHOFF is now shipping orders in reusable shipping boxes in the Benelux, delivered through our long-standing partner RAJAPACK Belgium.
This initiative makes BergHOFF one of the first companies in the Benelux to move beyond pilots and into fully operational reuse systems for e-commerce packaging—demonstrating that reuse at scale is not a future vision, but a practical reality.
From single-use to systems change
E-commerce packaging has traditionally been dominated by single-use cardboard boxes, resulting in large volumes of waste, high CO₂ emissions, and continuous demand for virgin raw materials. Reuse fundamentally changes this equation.
With RE-ZIP’s reusable packaging system, shipping boxes are designed to be used again and again, supported by return logistics, inspection, and data-driven tracking. Each additional rotation replaces a new single-use box, directly reducing environmental impact while maintaining the reliability and convenience required by modern e-commerce operations.
The solution enables tangible reductions in:
- Packaging waste
- CO₂ emissions
- Dependency on virgin materials
- Making reuse work in practice
What sets this project apart is not just the packaging itself, but the operational setup behind it. Together with RAJAPACK Belgium, RE-ZIP has established a system where reusable boxes are:
- Integrated into existing fulfillment workflows
- Collected through established return-logistics networks
- Inspected and prepared for the next use
- Tracked to document environmental performance and compliance
This makes reuse compatible with real-world e-commerce requirements; speed, scalability, and customer experience, while delivering measurable environmental benefits.

A LIFE-supported pathway to scale
This Benelux deployment forms part of the broader LIFE RE-ZIP Programme. Through the LIFE funding, RE-ZIP and the Project Partners is demonstrating how reusable e-commerce packaging can be rolled out across multiple European markets, supported by robust logistics, digital tracking, and strong commercial partnerships.
The project has received funding from the European Union’s LIFE Programme under grant agreement No. LIFE22-ENV-DK-101113962 (LIFE RE-ZIP).
